An Update

So!

Maria here. Sorry for the radio silence. I haven’t posted anything because I didn’t really have anything to say, but I guess I should probably check in and explain what’s going on with everybody at 2.0 Translations.

Firstly, Ludo’s officially quit. I wasn’t ever really in much contact with Aristoles, but I have no idea what he’s up to either. Our Rance VI project has, after many years, finally been abandoned. Arunaru, however, is working on that now, so head over to his site for updates on that.

haahh

Aten, true to his nickname, is struggling with motivation issues, but we haven’t abandoned our Rance 5D project and when I have a little more free time, I’m planning on contributing to that so that it gets done before Arunaru finishes Rance VI. I’m hoping to be a little less busy in April.

GuyZoo hasn’t been doing much Alicesoft-related stuff lately, but he’s had a little project going on youtube if you want to know what he’s been up to.

Meanwhile, Quest is… just kind of moving along. It’s been a little more than a year and I’m only at 25%, but I’ve got some good excuses: I’m pretty much working full-time now as a freelance translator and while I’ve been chipping away at Rance Quest, I’ve translated some four+ games for official localization companies with several of the projects still ongoing now. So I’ve really been doing a lot of translation! Just not Quest translation! If there’s interest, I might post some kind of list of the games I’ve officially worked on here once more of them are available.

Also, I’ve only been posting progress here on the script’s messages, which is basically the text that goes in the text box, but I’ve been spending a good amount of time translating all of the game’s strings as well, and those are all done now. This means all the text in the little speech bubbles while characters are exploring dungeons and fighting, all of the character and monster and attack and item names and descriptions, all of the trivia text and character epilogues that play in the credits, have all been translated but I wasn’t reporting that in the percentage here.

In addition, SLC and Pi-R and Vodka have all been working really hard lately to get all that stuff and all the images looking really good in game too, so there’s been a lot of progress on the technical side too.

I don’t really want to make any promises, since we don’t have a great track record with those here, but you may have noticed that the percentage has been going up much faster in the last few weeks. I don’t think we’ll be done with Quest this year, especially since I’m hoping to be rather busy with my official work, since you know, I need that to live and eat and stuff, but it’s starting to look like 2016 might be the year.

And that’s all I’ll say on that!

forgive us

  1. update like this makes me feels better. steady is better than quit. although it takes lot of time, i am grateful that you still continue this project. just take your time.

  2. I’m looking forward the 5D translation more than Quest. Mostly because I want to play it before VI so I hope you manage to finish the translation before Arunaru. Eitherway, take your time, and it doesn’t really matter if you don’t. You are doing this for free and for the love to the series so it doesn’t matter if it takes a long time. If Quest is not translated until 2018 is understandable because you have your own life.

Oh and thanks a lot to keep us informed with your plans and your work. Good luck guys :)

    • I totally agree!! Before I play Quest, I want to have gone through the story thus far.The first entry I played was Sengoku and I absolutely loved it (probably completed like 10+ playthroughs). Since then I’ve gone through I, II, and III. Slowly working on IV, trying to drag it out until 5D is done. I still think its awesome how Alicesoft can create an eroge with such amazing story.

Thanks for the update Maria!!! Any type of update after a couple months is much appreciated, even if you’re just saying “We’re still alive…”

  3. >2016

Huh, at least a decade sooner than I imagined. Waiting warmly. At least the translation for Rance VI will probably come this year which will be great.

  4. Thanks for the update, don’t worry about how long it’ll take, the important thing is that it’ll be finished someday! Keep up the good work!

  5. You guys are freaking amazing for even attempting such an ambitious project at all. Take your time, stay healthy, and have fun. Best of luck as well.

  6. Can you guy have a donate/paypal link somewhere in this site? Just in case we want to buy you a cup of coffee or two ;)

  7. Sweet news! i’ve been wanting to play this game since a long time since each sitting requires heavy dictionary usage for me due my rookie japanese level, especially for the tough kanji. i think i speak for all of us when i say we’re willing to wait and we’re loyal fans and we thank you for the time to write the update and for your ongoing work. you’re truly a tulip goddess.. also, i’d check back later and see if you wanna accept any small donations by people that offer that. i’m willing to chip in what little funds i have,(if it’s convenient to set up for you).
    Peace, thanks.

  8. Thank you for your hard work. It’s great to see such promising update. Hope that you will make it with Rance 5D before Arunaru finish Rance VI. Also we can see progres with Quest, so even if we need to wait till 2016, your steady work calms our anxiety.
About your other projects. If you can tell us more about them it would be great. Personally I would love to play any game you translated :)

  9. What about a patronage program? I think many people would like to support you guys just a little. Or maybe a donation button.

  10. I was wondering if It would be at all possible to fund Rance Quest’s translation. I am not the wealthiest person but I would certainly be willing to contribute in expenses.

  11. I agree with the comment on the patronage program / donation button. I already bought some MG games to support the projects but I would prefer to donate directly.

    • Me either. I already donated at Arunarus site and I think its only fair that those guys who are willing to spend time to work for all of us should at least get some coin in return. So a patronage program makes a lot of sense to me… maybe in a translation partnership with Aruna or other translators…

  12. any updates on the progress? I’m getting so antsy i’ve actually picked up my old japanese textbooks to relearn the basics.

  13. thank you all for your hard work for the series i would have stopped playing the game if it werent for you thank you very much
